You're a commercial test pilot who has been hired to check out a retired 747-400 that has recently been converted from a passenger version to a freighter. It has been sitting in storage in the desert at Mojave Airport (KMHV) for several years following the collapse of the airline that was originally leasing it.
Once you get to the testing area (7 miles east of the Edwards VOR) your copilot will talk you through these tests.
The aircraft has been prepped by the conversion crew, and is parked near taxiway F at Mojave Airport. The engines are running and you're ready to go.
