One Six Right
Flight Simulator X sponsors PBS airings of acclaimed aviation documentary film

The Flight Simulator team is proud to be a sponsor of One Six Right, which is airing on PBS stations in the U.S. over the next two years.

One Six Right is an acclaimed independent film that captures the passion of flying and celebrates the unsung hero of aviation—the local airport. The title refers to the name of the main runway at Van Nuys Airport (KVNY) in California. The film uncovers the rich history of Van Nuys—Amelia Earhart broke a world speed record over its runways, Marilyn Monroe was discovered while working in its hangars, and scenes from Casablanca were filmed on its grounds. Almost every type of aircraft has graced its runways.

About the film

Within months of its release, One Six Right achieved an international cult-like following. Harrison Ford has called it "one of the finest aviation films ever made."

With no narrator, the story is told through the personal accounts of flight enthusiasts, air traffic controllers, historians, and passionate pilots including Sydney Pollack, Tony Bill, and Lorenzo Lamas. Through the love story of one airport, past to present, the film shares the timeless romance of flying.

One Six Right illuminates an appreciation for small airplanes and community airports everywhere and is a powerful tool to use in convincing others of the benefits of General Aviation (GA). Small GA airports—which are disappearing at the alarming rate—are the foundation of the entire aviation industry, contribute significantly to global commerce, and help attract the pilots of tomorrow.

One Six Right is a powerful distribution and marketing success with national television airings, global merchandising, and worldwide media exposure.  The film went on a trend-setting nationwide HD theatrical tour that featured a special screening by members of Congress. Within the entertainment industry, the film has attracted support from many of the world’s leading media companies and has pioneered new standards in independent filmmaking and distribution. Filmed entirely in high definition (HD), One Six Right is the first independent film on HD DVD, the first documentary film on HD DVD, and the first aviation film on HD DVD.
